How to Stop a Water Tank Overflowing

Overflow stops when the filling motor stops at the right level. Water Gauge shows that level in the Android app and can switch the motor from the controller at the starter.

An overhead tank overflows when the motor keeps running after the tank is full. The water then leaves through the overflow pipe, onto the roof, and often down the wall. People notice the stain or the sound, which is late. A float switch tied to the starter is the old fix. It works until the float sticks or the wire breaks. A phone-based system is a different fix only if it can both see the level and command the motor. Watching a number while the pump keeps running does not stop the overflow.

The two devices that have to agree

On Water Gauge the sensor is in the tank and the level manager sends the reading to the app. The level manager test says you should confirm the reading and confirm that a notification arrives when a level is reached. That notification can tell a person to switch the motor off. It does not, by itself, open the starter. The controller is the device at the starter. Its test is to turn the motor on and off from the app, then to try automatic control. Automatic on and off, plus thresholds, are also listed on the home page. Overflow control as a behaviour is those two tests together.

If you install only the solar level manager, you have monitoring. You can still overflow if nobody acts on the alert. If you install only the controller, you have a remote switch and no tank reading. The combination is the wireless water automation system. Say which of the two you already have when you ask for a quote, so the estimate does not assume both.

What to test on the day it is installed

Fill toward the top, or simulate the level the way the installer recommends, and watch the app. Confirm the notification. Then confirm the motor actually stops when the automatic command is sent. The product pages already ask for that kind of test. They do not publish a time in seconds from "full" to "motor off". Do not advertise a number you were not shown. If a society or a hotel needs a time, ask for it on a demo and write down what you saw.

The sensor must be mounted where a full tank is really full, clear of obstructions. A sensor stuck low will call the tank full too early. A sensor above the overflow will never see the water that is already leaving. The sensor page says to choose the mounting point for that reason. The level manager still needs sun and mobile signal or the app will not show the event you are trying to catch.

People and buildings

A house usually has one person who forgot the motor. An apartment society has a shared tank and several people who blame each other. A hotel has guests who should never see the overflow pipe running. The hardware described is the same. The phone list is not. The site does not describe an alert to every flat. It describes the app notifying you. Decide who "you" is before installation, especially if a watchman and a manager both need the message.

Schedules can reduce overflow if the motor is only allowed to run in a window, but a schedule alone does not know the tank. The home page lists both schedules and level thresholds. Use the level if the goal is "stop when full", not only "run for twenty minutes". The site does not publish the schedule screen, so look at it on a demo.

What this does not replace

The overflow pipe should still exist. A controller is not a reason to block the overflow. If the app, the network, or the starter wiring fails, the pipe is the physical backup. Water Gauge does not describe itself as a certified flood-prevention device. It describes a level, a notification, and a motor command. Keep the pipe. Test the command. Read how it works and the FAQ.

There is no price on the site for an overflow kit, because there is no price list at all. Call +91 70004 65454 or use the contact page. The office is in Indore. A free estimate should say "stop the motor when the tank is full", so the controller is included. Indicator versus controller is the short version of the same mistake: buying a display when you needed a switch.

After the test, leave a note next to the starter: who may use the app, and that the overflow pipe stays open. The next person to maintain the building should not remove the pipe because a phone exists. If you are a society or a hotel, name the two staff who watched the test. If you are a house, one filling seen by the family is enough. Then ask for the estimate only for the pieces you do not already have. Monitoring without the controller will not finish this job. The controller without a level will not know the tank is full. That is the whole purchasing rule, and it is why the wireless water automation page treats them as one system when overflow is the reason you called.
